Invisalign in Flushing is a preferred orthodontic treatment among teens and adults because it’s virtually invisible. Clear aligners are worn over the teeth to apply gradual pressure. This allows them to be slowly moved into their ideal positions without any need for brackets or wires. Although you’re excited to choose a treatment that’s nearly undetectable, it’s natural to worry about the length of time you’ll need the aligners. Don’t fret. Most patients are done with their series in about 1 year.
How long does Invisalign take?
Unfortunately, there’s no easy answer regarding the duration of your treatment without first having a consultation with your dentist. There are various factors that influence the length of time it will take, such as the severity of your bite and alignment issues. The average treatment takes about 12 months but that varies considerably from person to person. No matter how long it is expected to last, you may see results in as little as 2 to 3 months.
What influences my treatment time?
Generally, you can expect more severe alignment issues to take longer than those who have minor concerns. If you only need to make small changes, the aligners may only need to be worn for a few months, but more extensive complications can take 1 year or longer. Besides the complexity of your alignment concerns, there are other issues that impact how long your treatment will take, such as:
- Age: Although there aren’t any age requirements for Invisalign, it’s best for teens who have already lost all their primary teeth and adults who need a discreet treatment. Generally, teens achieve results faster than adults because their mouths are still growing and developing, which makes it easier for the teeth to be adjusted.
- Patient Compliance: Among the biggest factors to add unnecessary delays to a treatment plan is a patient not complying with their dentist’s recommendations. It’s best to wear the aligners for at least 22 hours per day. You’ll need to switch to a new aligner in the series about every 2 weeks. Not wearing your aligners often enough or switching to a new one too soon will affect how long it will take.
How can I get started?
Traditional braces are effective, but they are very noticeable when a person smiles or speaks. You’ll need to deal with their visibility and restrictions for an average of 2 years. Now, you can skip the hassle and choose a convenient solution with Invisalign.
Your dentist performs an extensive consultation to ensure you’re a candidate for clear aligners. They take the time to explain how long you can expect it to take and how to ensure you stay on track with your treatment plan.
