What To Expect From a Tooth Extraction in Queens

At NY Smile Creators, it is always Dr. Richard Gochman and Dr. Teju Bharati’s goal to preserve your natural teeth for a lifetime, and we do this by providing the highest quality care available for our patients. There are certain circumstances, however, in which you may need to have a tooth removed. While this is never the best news to receive, we want you to know that your experience doesn’t have to be unpleasant when you’re in expert hands. Here’s more about what you can expect from a tooth extraction in Queens.

Why Do I Need An Extraction?

There are a few situations in which the removal of a tooth is the best solution for your oral health. These are:

  • Wisdom teeth – or third molars that are crowded or negatively affecting other teeth.
  • Orthodontic treatment – sometimes, teeth may need to be removed in order to straighten your teeth effectively.
  • Periodontal disease – this is the infection of your gums and the bone which supports your teeth. Severe cases of gum disease can cause tooth loss.
  • Injury or Infected – if your tooth becomes abscessed or infected beyond the scope of what root canal therapy can help restore, you may need to have your tooth removed.

Will a Tooth Extraction Hurt?

Dental anesthetics will ensure that you don’t feel anything but a slight bit of pressure throughout your treatment. Most patients are surprised at how smooth and easy their extraction procedure is. At Cosmetic & Family Dentistry, we also offer nitrous oxide that can be used to help you feel more relaxed and at ease during your appointment. Nitrous works quickly and exits your system just as quickly, so your recovery process is not affected by it.

What is the Recovery Process Like After an Extraction?

We’ll send you home with specific instructions on how to make your recovery as easy and quick as possible. You should plan to relax for the next 24 hours and have reduced activities in the next few days, if possible. You’ll also need to avoid brushing around the extraction sight for a few days and plan to eat soft foods at first. We’ll follow up with you in a week or two to ensure that everything is healing as planned and to remove stitches if necessary.

If you need a tooth removed, we’ll do everything we can to ensure that your experience is pleasant and comfortable. Give our office a call to learn more about the process and schedule your appointment.
